About Thymosin Alpha-1

Thymosin Alpha-1 is a 28 amino acid peptide originally isolated from thymosin fraction 5, an extract of the thymus. The thymus is where T cells mature, and this peptide is one of the signals that governs that maturation, which is what places it on the adaptive rather than the innate side of immune function.

Its described actions centre on T cell differentiation, dendritic cell maturation and the restoration of immune response in states where it is depressed. It also modulates rather than simply stimulates, which is the reason the clinical literature covers both immunodeficiency and conditions of immune overactivation.

Among the peptides sold in this format it has an unusually strong clinical record. Under the name Zadaxin it is licensed in more than thirty countries for hepatitis B and C and as an adjuvant in certain cancers, and it has been studied in sepsis and in severe respiratory infection. It has never obtained a UK or US licence, which is why it appears here rather than in a pharmacy.

Choosing between Thymosin Alpha-1, LL-37 and TB500

The naming causes most of the confusion here. Thymosin Alpha-1 and

TB500

share a prefix and nothing else: TB500 is a fragment related to thymosin beta-4 and acts on actin and cell migration, which is a tissue repair mechanism. Thymosin Alpha-1 is an immune signalling peptide. They are not variants of one another and they are not interchangeable.
